Handmade Blue Onesie Card

Hello everyone! My family is all okay from Hurricane Sandy! Thanks for all of your concern and well wishes! I really, really appreciate your thoughts! Unfortunately we are in the middle of yet another, less severe, rain/snow storm at the moment, but still packs a punch. Hopefully those who are still without power are with family like my dad. He will be staying with us for an indefinite amount of time. He lives in a Zone B flooding zone, but were not asked to evacuate unlike those in Zone A. The basement was completely flooded (they found swimming fish!) and it will take weeks to pump out water and replace equipment. The street in front of the building became a river and there were many scary explosions outside from cars and water boilers reacting with the water. They issued a mandatory evacuation over the past weekend as temperatures were at dangerous levels with no heat, hot water, or electricity. The gas situation for cars are still a nightmare and trains/buses are very slowly being restored, so there are massive delays. Many areas are devastated as you may have heard, but the city will slowly get there...surprisingly Halloween was unaffected in my neighborhood last Wednesday. Despite the downed trees and damaged homes/cars, everyone was in a hurry to get out of the house after being locked in for half the week.

Anyway, as a result of the hurricane I wasn't able to send out a baby shower present to a friend in Virginia in time...yes...my fault for leaving it to the last minute. :X This was the card that accompanied the shipment.

Card opens from bottom to top. Dry embossed buttons run down the middle section. A lighter shade of blue lines the rims of sleeves and collar. The ducky and stars are stickers. I wanted something cute without stamping. I was afraid the texture of the cardstock would hinder a perfectly stamped image.

Husband & Wife Quilled Blue Flowers Wedding Card

There are many weddings coming up this summer, so I thought I'd take this week's Anything Goes challenge at Tuesday Alchemy to get myself going with wedding cards. I was inspired by a wedding cake. Can you see where I was going with that? 

I found this Bride and Groom clipart from Computer Clip Art:

I printed it on my inkjet printer after filling the black parts with the color I wanted in Photoshop. 

I used both quilled flowers and white Prima flowers. Prima flower centers are quilled.

Sentiment was wet embossed with detailed silver embossing powder and there are various patterns that I dusted with blue Perfect Pearls, so it'll have a shimmer at certain angles.

Lobster and Cherry Blossoms Frame Card Handmade

Come and join us at this week's Tuesday Alchemy challenge! Share with us all things that remind you of the ocean! Do you live near one? 

This is a frame card that I made for a friend for her and her bf's anniversary. I put random things on there that symbolize their relationship together. It includes: 2 lobsters, 2 cherry blossom flowers, a broom and pail...I don't even want to know! :D She'll be able to put a landscape 4"x6" photo in there. The background paper was plain baby blue, but I dabbed white ink over it to make it more dreamy and water-like. Everything else was white cardstock that was painted with acrylic paint.

 

Today Venus passes across the surface of the sun--it's a once in a lifetime thing for those of us who are alive today. The next time this happens is expected to be 2117! I don't have access to a telescope...wish I did...but I will try to catch it live on NASA TV a little later. I've always been interested in astronomy, so this is exciting to me. I got a chance to see Jupiter and Uranus through a large rooftop telescope at my university during an astronomy course in 2005. I wish I could get in there tonight and use it again because it isn't safe for the retina in the eyes to look up at the sun even with sunglasses! The light is too concentrated, so please be careful if you're thinking about doing this and read up on it before for the health of your eyes!!!
