Quilled Mr & Mrs Wedding Shaped Card, Butterfly Flourishes

It has come to my attention that I am only 3 posts away from 100 for the year while typing this entry! Therefore, I will strive to make it to the 100 mark by 2013. Though crafting is rewarding in and of itself, it is also a good feeling to see documentation of the progress. For those of us who blog regularly, it may seem so routine at this point. I was thinking about how initially foreign the idea was to write posts about what I make. Familiarizing myself with Blogspot and blogging communities, in general, was sometimes intimidating. Please give yourself a pat on the back for me for coming this far in your own craft journeys and especially to those of you who journal about your crafts--I am so proud of us all! :)

A few months ago, I made this card for another crafty friend's wedding. We met in our teens during one of my first jobs at a tutoring center in Brooklyn. For a while, we lost contact due to our 2 year age difference and attending different schools and colleges altogether. Facebook. Ah, what my generation would do without...I can't even imagine. Anyway, we reconnected through there as many others did during our freshmen year in college when it was first introduced to the college world. Who would've thought that we would find this unlikely connection through crafting so many years later? You see, it is very uncommon for those growing up in a place like NYC to be taking on any hobbies. Unless you're born to a hippie or into a privileged family, it is more likely that we would have a part-time job in school than pursue our interests. It wasn't until college that I was able to pursue papercrafting.

I notice that I put in a bit more effort into designing things when I know I am gifting a handmade item to another artsy person. Why is this? Well, this person will be better able to appreciate and connect with what is presented to them, for one. Another thing that may or may not be true is my impression that I am suppose to WOW this person because they have been exposed to so many more amazing works by the array of talent out there. I cannot accurately make this comparison, but it is still an illogical reasoning I have. Do any of you ever find that you are in this situation as well?








Lastly, I should comment about the actual card. :D "Mr & Mrs" are paper pierced and then the paper I used to fill in the letters was taken from gift wrapping scraps. It actually shimmers through and does not take away from the overall look, in my opinion. Silhouette butterfly is embellished with tiny rhinestones. Flourishes are quilled.

Here is a shot of the interior. It's also lined with the same gift wrap as the lettering that peeks through the front of the card. I am still holding onto the cut-outs from "Mr & Mrs"...perhaps for another wedding project I will integrate them.

We are expecting a snowstorm in the Northeast today, so we'll be staying in. Hopefully everyone is doing the same to stay safe and warm.

Quilled Bouquet of Tulips Trifold Card

Happy Tuesday! I am here to share with you my card for the new Tuesday Alchemy challenge this week--it's Bingo! You may remember Marion, a DT and also last week's sponsor, from stopping by our blogs; she was awesome enough to make up this BINGO chart for the theme this week:

This card will be given to a couple on their wedding day in Sept. I went down the middle: flowers, glitter, dry embossing. Do you spot where I did the dry embossing and glitter?

It's a trifold card that is being held together by this blue satin ribbon/belly band. The inside is decorated with pattern paper. I forgot to take a picture of it. :X Maybe I'll remember to do it when I write the card. The backdrop that the quilling sits on was die-cut into various sizes of scalloped circles.

Husband & Wife Quilled Blue Flowers Wedding Card

*This post was set up in advance as I am away this week. Comments are always appreciated, but please excuse my delay in responding!!!*

There are many weddings coming up this summer, so I thought I'd take this week's Anything Goes challenge at Tuesday Alchemy to get myself going with wedding cards. Two prizes up for grabs this week: Live A Beadiful Life is offering a $10 gift certificate to one lucky winner and The Greeting Farm is sending over a 4x6 Clear Or Rubber Stamp Set to a second winner! I was inspired by a wedding cake. Can you see where I was going with that? 

I found this Bride and Groom clipart from Computer Clip Art:

I printed it on my inkjet printer after filling the black parts with the color I wanted in Photoshop. 

I used both quilled flowers and white Prima flowers. Prima flower centers are quilled.

Sentiment was wet embossed with detailed silver embossing powder and there are various patterns that I dusted with blue Perfect Pearls, so it'll have a shimmer at certain angles.

Modern Wedding Cards # 1 -- Wedding Cake and Quilled Roses!

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Hope you are getting spoiled with love! :)

I have been working on numerous wedding cake designs for cards. I apologize in advance for all of the similar-looking wedding cake cards I will be posting. :) This one with the quilled red roses is the first of them. I plan to use the same template, but change the embellishments on the actual card.

This is the first card I will be posting on this Etsy account:

"The background was designed on computer and printed on cardstock. It was sealed with a matte decoupage medium before the cake pieces were put on top. The cake has a dry embossed pattern and was dipped with white glitter on the accents. Quilled flowers were also lightly dusted with red glitter. The ribbon strip was made with gold-specked paper.

Card measures 5'x5' and comes with an envelope."

Elegant Wedding Card

Just the colors, I feel, make this card almost regal. The background paper pattern is actually flocked and it comes from the paper pack DCWV La Crème Mat Stack and the gold paper on the bottom is DCWV The Metallic Stack. It's a really simple-to-make yet eye catching card to give to someone. Ya gotta love that!

Wedding Invite Proposal #6 Chinese Wedding

Out of all of the ones I came up with, I think this is the most traditionally appealing to the Chinese. Traditional Chinese families love using gold and red colors in everything possible for celebratory events. These bold colors are usually not favored by younger generations and may come across many dilemmas in attempting to integrate more classy color schemes while at the same time pleasing older generations.

This is a tri-fold style card. A belly band holds everything together.

The thick belly band was embossed with gold.

This is the open card with the belly band off.

The inside also has a gold embossed flower as a letterhead.

I believe this was the last of the proposed invites, so I leave you with the actual invites that were sent out (English). They were designed and letterpressed by my awesome friend, Colleen!

Wedding Invite Proposal #5

Well it seems as though I have forgotten to post some of the other ideas I had back in March. Of course these were just very rough ideas. The reason I thought this one was very versatile was because this style would've made the bilingual invite easy to get out.

You may have seen this scallop style card on many other artists' sites, but this has a spin in it. The way the ribbon is holding the middle card in place, allows it to be flipped. What that means is that you have extra space on the back of the top layer and you also have the open space of the attached back part. It would be exposed once you lift it allowing for more room to write in chinese/english or whatever language you would like on there. An eyelet on both the backing card and the movable card allows for room for the ribbon to both keep the card from falling off and give you enough room to flip it.

This card isn't a developed card, but merely a styling idea.

The papers are cardstock and vellum. Punch holes through only the top two layers of vellum and cardstock, leaving the back untouched. Through the punched holes, set eyelets and tie the bow to be exposed on the front of the card.

Wedding Invite Proposal # 3

This is something I borrowed from somewhere on the web. I can't remember...very sorry. If anyone knows, please let me know so I can give appropriate credit. Thanks!

All you need to do is find a picture of a flower to print out, then type the couple's names onto the vellum. The bow just ties the two separate pieces together without any other adhesive.

Wedding Invite Proposal # 2

This is a much simpler design. From this one, please ignore the parts of the card where the white fibers of the core are exposed through the cracks. My main intention was to offer a sample and so I used whatever I had laying around to get the idea across.

As you can see, I used the same charm as seen in the previous design. The other thing you might notice is that I wrapped it with two different ribbons.

Now in the interior, it unfolds to 3 different panels. I ran the double ribbons behind the frames of the text. All of the text was computer designed.

Lastly, the bottom panel is for the RSVP--intended to be ripped off so guests can return it by mail. This aspect can be turned into a post card (where you write the addresses on the other side) or you can include a return envelope, which is not shown here. Ideally, it would be perforated, but I do not have that tool in my collection and if it was chosen I would do so. Instead, I have just cut off most of the part to indicate the purpose.

Wedding Invite Proposal # 1

 

In March, I was asked to help my friend, Jenny, create her wedding invitations for an October wedding. This proposal is 1 of a few that I came up with. Though we are moving in a different direction now, I wanted to upload some of my ideas.

I thought this design was very flexible for a bilingual wedding. The middle portion pulls out and you can use one side for English and in this case, the back was meant to be for the Chinese writing. 

I picked up a pack of these charms from Michaels. It didn't cost more than $2 from what I remember. All you do is string ribbon through the ring of the charm to attach. The ribbon is tied in the back.

Vellum is wrapped over the text portion and confetti (stars for this invite) were inserted. You can actually shake the stars around
