Quilled Purple Shooting Star Flower Flourish Fridge Magnet

It's week 29 this week! I think I felt my first Braxton Hicks contraction last night, but I'm not sure. It's gotten me to start thinking about packing a hospital bag!

The gorgeous fall foliage colors are passing through this region--I can't believe that fall is here already. I hope they stay put for another 2 weeks, so I get a nice scenic ride down to NYC for the baby shower. :)

Here is another fridge magnet that will be part of the collection of party favors:
The base of this one is a heavy cardboard flower that I found in one of my old collections of embellishments. It's already laminated with the purple paper and glitter. The only things I added were the star gems and the star shaped purple quilled piece with a flourish trailing behind it. I'd like to think of it like a shooting star, but I can't deny that my original intention was a purple flower. :X

Good day to you all!

Quilled Purple Orchids Unique Stringed Mom Card

Well summer is in full swing and of course I caught one of those horrid summer colds...yay! Thank you mom! :D Yes, she passed it onto me when she was visiting from Maine a few WEEKS ago. I still can't shake this cough!

How has your summer been so far? It's hot, humid, and extremely wet over here. In fact, we have thunderstorms more often than not lately. It's really not so great for those of us who just want to get outside and enjoy the day!

In honor of an awesome mother who has left me this great gift of sickness before she left, I present to you this card:

:P It's a card that took a lot of time making, not only because of all of the quilled pieces but also because of what it took to spell the word "mom." I took a thicker thread and free handed the letters, so essentially, they are "stringed." Each piece had to be carefully glued down...then you wait for it to dry...glue some more...wait some more, etc., etc... Needless to say, a lot of love went into it.

As for the quilling part, I made orchids and a bunch of smaller leaves glued together to make larger leaves. All of the quilling together did not come close to equaling the time it took to glue down the string! My head was really spinning after all of the concentration it took to complete this card. I'll probably be needing a long, long break before tackling anything like this again when I have time.

All the best to you lovely readers this week!

28th Birthday Quilled Pink & Yellow Flowers Card

It's my birthday month and I am actually going to be celebrating my 28th birthday! I'm not big on doing anything, but we do have a lot to be happy for this year so I'd like to think of it as a nice time for reflection. Hopefully it'll be warmer and I can get in a nice stroll. I'm scheduled for the dentist to get in a permanent crown on that day, so it'll make for a memorable birthday for that reason if nothing else.

This is a card with a chalked background and 3 quilled flowers. I don't know why, but I really wanted to scatter the leaves a little bit to use up some of the white space.

Enjoy this Wednesday afternoon!

Gold and Peach Quilling Flowers Card (29th Birthday)

I've been really out of tune with the blogging world and I apologize!

On the one hand, I have the opportunity to work on all of the crafts I could ever want for my wedding. On the other hand, I do so many repetitions of each aspect that I really miss the freedom of making whatever I want in a heart beat. I am really proud of what I've done thus far, but just in case anyone from my guest list is reading this, I don't want to give away anything prematurely. :X I'm mean like that! :) I am currently working on my guest signing poster. I was glad to shift gears to this after completing a few shy of 100 invites (I will make a separate post for this). Fortunately, they're all out of my hands now and I am very relieved of that. :) We will be traveling down to NYC for it on April 27th (a week after our 5 year anniversary actually) as that is where the majority of our friends and family are. As you can probably imagine, it hasn't been the easiest planning things from 3 hours away.

For now, I have for you a quilled card for someone celebrating their 29th birthday. I quilled 2 flowers in gold paper, but I felt that it needed more gold so I went ahead and wet embossed the tops in gold as well. That gives you the added metallic look that you see above. I really like this color combo and in fact, I will be using it as part of my wedding color scheme.

Have a very wonderful Tuesday!

Valentine's Hearts in a Vase Quilled Card

...And just like that we're almost a month into 2014!

January 31st marks Chinese New Year (lunar calendar). It's the year of the horse. Since the zodiac is on a 12 year cycle, the next year of the horse will not make it's next appearance until 2026!

I've been pretty bad with keeping up with things lately due to getting settled in and working on my wedding invites, but here, alas, is my contribution to current events in crafting...a Valentine's Day card!
There are 3 hearts that are acting like blossoms in a vase. I've taken a liking to swirling my foliage lately if you can't tell. :) The background is embossed with blocks of hearts from Cuttlebug and the sentiment was printed using my photo printer. It's a little hard to see it, but I also dabbed some glitter on the hearts for added effect.

Sending you all my best,

Stunning Thinking of You Card w/ Quilling, Embossing

I have to admit, I am a little in love with the clean and simple look of this card. :X It's mostly white, but the gold on it really pops!
2 quilled flowers and rhinestone centers. The frame was dabbed with a pearlescent paint by hand to create the effect. "Thinking of you" was wet embossed with gold powder.

It's my 2nd full weekend in Albany. We've been driving down to NYC every other week as my cats are with my dad and we try to drive up things in little batches--whatever we have left in storage. Driving is like night and day. I don't miss that about NYC at all!

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Pink Picture Frame Card Quilling Flowers Pink/Periwinkle

Hello from upstate NY--long overdue post!

We're only halfway through moving...and by that I mean that our stuff is in storage and we live in temporary housing. Hopefully for not more than another 2 weeks! I'm getting a little cabin fever here. :O

Below is a picture frame card that I made 2 days ago. I had a hard time finding a place to photograph in this small room, but there you have it...a window ledge!
This picture is about 3 years old of Dimma and I. We were much skinnier in those days. :D
I have some pink in there to match the background and I'd like to call the other color periwinkle, but I'm not sure if that's correctly identified. :P There's some glitter on the leaves as well.

Hope you're all having a wonderful Thursday!

Quilling Pink Roses in Vase Birthday Card

Good afternoon! I have some news! Dimma and I are moving to Albany soon! It's about a 3 hr drive north of here. It's no NYC, but we visited on Sunday and felt that it is good enough for our lifestyle. It's a major change, but it isn't as if we take advantage of all that NYC has to offer most of the time anyway. We find that we're more frustrated living here than anything. Don't get me wrong, I still love a lot of things that remain here--family and friends I can never replace for one thing! I will miss them a lot, but my wedding is still taking place in Queens so we will visit enough! Dimma starts his job Oct 24th, so we really need to scramble to find a place NOW! I think the physical part of moving will be the most traumatic, but once we've figured all of things out it should be much more calm. With that said, I probably won't be able to post often on my blog...not that I've been doing a good job this summer anyway (sorry)! Either way, thank you blog friends for stopping by once in a while to say hi!

Today I have a quilled roses card. I added some glitter, so it sparkles! The vase shape is hand cut and embossed. The sentiment was printed using my photo printer. It has an elegance that I can only strive for in my life. :D

Enjoy your day!

Clear Pink Quilled Flowers Congrats Card

I can't believe the summer is over again. Many colleges began class today.

This pink congrats card is not made on your traditional card stock paper. It's created on acetate to make it a clear card! It was so difficult to keep it clean as the static really likes to attract anything and everything!!
I started gluing it with tape runner, but this was really unattractive due to the streaks that it created. Instead, I had to use a spray adhesive. I find it much harder to adhere same size sheets this way.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Best Friends Quilled Flowers and Roses Frame Card

I am thrilled to be a winner of Ann's recent book giveaway--Party Origami!
Does that look exciting or what?! I can't wait to try some of the things--thank you!!!

So how about this NYC weather? 90s leading up to June. Unreal!

Anyway, this is a picture frame card that I made. It's a bit different than usual--it's super girly looking to me and playful. I'm usually more toned down with this stuff, but maybe it's the vibrant flowers outside that are inspiring to me.
This is a picture from about 4 years ago. I'm in the middle, Jen to the right, and Jenny to my left. Jenny already has an (almost) 1 yr old--boy does time fly!

Happy 100 Days Baby Girl Pink Quilled Roses Card

I made a quick baby card for my co-worker who needed a last minute one for a 100th day celebration. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this term, it is a traditional celebration for a newborn 100 days after their birth. It is commonly observed by Korean and Chinese families. In addition to this day, I know that the Chinese have a gathering on the first full month/full moon after the baby is born. For this particular celebration, it is the first official introduction of the baby to relatives and close friends. Are there any such celebrations in your culture?
The baby feet were chalked and then a layer of glitter was applied sparingly to it. 3 various sized roses were quilled.

This interior also sports the same footsies from Cuttlebug.

Enjoy!

Quilling Purple Flowers Farewell Card for Raena

Who's playing Powerball this weekend? $600 mil?! We can dream, right? :D
Today another work study has left us. We're always sad to see each and every one of them go, but let's face it...this was only the beginning and there are a lot of places for career growth elsewhere.

I made her a farewell card. It's one of the more delicate looking cards that I've made recently. I don't know why I feel that way. It may be the lace fabric ribbon! It's on a pretty shimmery pinkish-colored cardstock base by Bazzill. There's a lot of chalking for the background, but the 2D flowers and pot were stamped. Flower centers were dotted with liquid pearls. It may be a bit hard to see, but the rim of the pot is made from 2 cut strips of paper using edger scissors. The petals of the quilled flowers were shaped into an arrow-like shape. Then finished off with rhinestones.
I really like this one. I hope you do too!

Quilling Yellow Sunflowers Best Wishes Doily Card

Are any of you nervous about insects? I am a bit disturbed about the 17 year cicadas that are supposed to rise in swarms in the coming weeks. :T This means I was only ten during the last invasion of this particular species of cicadas! Ignorance is BLISS sometimes. :D
I made a card for one of our work studys for her last day in the office. When I was a work study, I got some personal time to do my homework on certain days...this is not so for our office unfortunately. They are greatly treasured individuals who we rely on heavily for important responsibilities. For this reason, I will miss her very much.
I rarely use doilies, but I liked the delicate look it gives after seeing what Karon did on her post:

Birthdays with Bling. I then wet embossed "Best Wishes" in silver.

The flourishes were stamped and pearl accents were added on the ends. I tried to keep the sunflowers about the same size. They were also chalked to add a gradient-style shading.
Finally, we had so much to write, I decided to turn it into a pocket for the interior. It's more like a wedding invite if you ask me!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Tiffany Blue Quilling Handmade Card for Mom

A card for mom:
Made following a sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Hi guys! I'm glad to be back on the computer--my hard drive died and I had no laptop for a bit. I lost some of my pictures and unfortunately some of my card collection with it. :( On the other hand, I'm glad that I was doing a semi-good job uploading many of the card pictures on the blog. Let this be a lesson to you all as well...back up your information if it's important enough to you! I would like to just go on my way pretending I never took the pictures, but somehow I can't! I just can't! Such is life...

Hope you'll be out and about enjoying the nice weather--we're having sunny days in the upper 60s! I planted my tomato seeds and hopefully I'll be seeing some of them soon!
